Panelists explore state of democracy during civic literacy webinar

The ABA hosted a live webinar April 23 in connection with the release of its sixth annual Survey of Civic Literacy. During the program, panelists discussed provocative new findings on public attitudes about the state of our democracy.

ABA President Mary Smith participated in this important discussion. The featured panelists were:

  • Judy Woodruff (moderator), senior correspondent for PBS NewsHour and host of “Judy Woodruff Presents: America at a Crossroads”
  • Danielle Allen, professor of political philosophy, public policy and ethics at Harvard University; author of “Democracy in the Time of Coronavirus”
  • Amanda Carpenter, writer and editor at Protect Democracy; former communications director for Texas Sen. Ted Cruz
  • Judge J. Michael Luttig, (retired), of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 4th Circuit; co-chair of the ABA Task Force for American Democracy
