The Standing Committee on Legal Assistance for Military Personnel (LAMP) fosters the continued growth of the military legal assistance programs; promotes the delivery of legal services to military personnel and their family members; and works with other organizations to enhance the scope, quality, and delivery of free or affordable legal services to eligible legal assistance clients.

ABA Military Pro Bono Project
Pro Bono Representation
The ABA Military Pro Bono Project is a one-of-a-kind venture that improves access to pro bono civil legal assistance for active-duty military personnel while expanding opportunities for firms and attorneys to provide pro bono services. The program accepts case referrals from military attorneys on behalf of servicemembers facing civil legal issues, and it works to place these cases with pro bono attorneys.

Attorney-to-Attorney Guidance
The Military Pro Bono Project is also the platform for Operation Stand-By, through which military attorneys may seek attorney-to-attorney guidance. Civilian attorneys have an outlet for providing legal help to servicemembers with a minimal time commitment, and military attorneys have a resource that supports them in advising and assisting their clients.

Free Legal Answers
ABA Free Legal Answers is a virtual legal advice portal for users to ask legal questions, and qualified attorneys can volunteer to provide brief advice to answer questions. Veterans—along with eligible dependents and survivors—can ask about VA benefits, discharge upgrades, and similar veterans’ legal issues. ABA Home Front
Resources for Military Families
The Standing Committee on Legal Assistance for Military Personnel was a lead partner in the creation of ABA Home Front, an online legal resource specifically for military families. The site includes legal information on a variety of topics, a national directory of military and civilian legal assistance programs, and a portal for civilian attorneys to volunteer with the ABA Military Pro Bono Project.

About LAMP
The mission of the American Bar Association Standing Committee on Legal Assistance for Military Personnel is to: (1) Foster the continued growth of the military legal assistance programs; (2) Promote the delivery of legal services to military personnel and their family members, and to persons accompanying the armed forces outside the United States, on their personal legal affairs; and (3) Maintain close liaison with the Department of Defense, the Department of Homeland Security (with respect to the U.S. Coast Guard), the military services, bar associations and appropriate committees of the Association to enhance the scope, quality and delivery of free or affordable legal services to eligible legal assistance clients.
