Disaster Legal Services
The American Bar Association's Young Lawyers Division has teamed up with the Federal Emergency Management Agency to create Disaster Legal Services — a program designed to help survivors navigate the aftermath of presidentially-declared disasters.
Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion
We are committed to continuing to increase the diversity of our membership, expanding the diversity of our leadership and to assuring that the legal profession reflects the society it serves. This commitment is outlined in the Division’s Diversity Plan and carried out via Division events, programs and resources.
Men of Color Project
The Men of Color Project is designed to empower men of color to become leaders in the legal profession, facilitate an intergenerational support system, and encourage opportunities for community service and civic engagement.
Women of Color Taskforce
The ABA YLD Women of Color Taskforce seeks to examine the experiences of women of color in the legal profession, identify and effectively address the unique challenges they face, and provide them with tools to build community.
First Gen Initiative
The Young Lawyers Division’s First Gen Initiative aims to raise awareness, educate, and assist first-generation law students, law graduates, attorneys, and other legal professionals as they navigate through the legal profession.
Operation: Second Chance
This Public Service Project focuses on providing resources and tools for YLD affiliates to implement and host expungement fairs and advocating for the restoration of voter rights for returning citizens.
Student Loans and Finances
The ABA YLD’s Student Loans and Financial Wellness advocates for reduced loan burdens while providing practical resources for managing debt.
Young Lawyer and Law Student Opportunities
From professional recognition such as awards and contests to financial assistance like scholarships and funded travel, each year the ABA offers 100+ opportunities and programs for young lawyers and law students.
YLD Subgrants
The program is designed to promote quality projects developed by affiliated young lawyer organizations and to assist in the success of the program by providing support through program funding for public service projects and bar leadership/membership service projects.
YLD Awards
The Young Lawyers Division gives a number of awards, including On the Rise - Top 40 Young Lawyers Award, the Outstanding Young Military Lawyer Award and the Awards of Achievement.
