Council Grants Provisional Approval to Belmont University College of Law

Belmont University College of Law

    At its June 2013 meeting, the Section Council granted provisional approval to Belmont University College of Law, effective June 8, 2013. Located in Nashville, Tennessee, the college of law is housed in the Randall and Sadie Baskin Center on the campus of Belmont University, a private, religiously affiliated school.  The law school's inaugural class began in the fall of 2011. It offers a full-time program that currently enrolls 224 students. Dean Jeffrey Kinster was previously dean of Appalachian School of Law and a professor at Elon University School of Law.

    Under Standard 102 (Provisional Approval) of the ABA Standards and Rules for Approval of Law Schools, “a student at a provisionally approved law school and an individual who graduates while the school is provisionally approved are entitled to the same recognition given to students and graduates of fully approved law schools.” (Interpretation 102-4)
