LPM Section News and Events
News from the Law Practice Management Section
The Law Practice Management Section is continuing to expand its programming this fall, with more interactive and online publishing and increased CLE opportunities. This month, LPM celebrates a second consecutive sold-out year for the ABA Women Rainmakers Mid-Career Workshop, and registration has already begun for ABA TECHSHOW® 2009. We invite your input and feedback on all the Section offers to members and subscribers, and we’ll be offering new opportunities for you to contribute your ideas. Make the most of your LPM membership by letting us know your needs!
Get a taste of the Tucson experience. Many of you are unable to attend the LPM Fall Meeting and the sold-out ABA Women Rainmakers Mid-Career Workshop this October at the Westin La Paloma in Tucson. But that does not mean you will miss the experience entirely. LPM will provide updates and selected materials from both the Section meetings and the workshop at
www.lawpractice.org in October and
November. To view the complete events schedules, visit www.lawpractice.org/meetings/fall/2008 and www.lawpractice.org/wr/workshop/2008.
Third Thursday teleconferences. LPM continues its popular “Third Thursday” CLE teleconferences this fall. On Thursday, October 16, LPM presents Embracing the Paper-Free Practice, featuring popular ABA author David Masters and technology consultant Nancy Duhon. The transition from paper-based to digital information is underway. Lawyers who adopt a “paper-free office” to manage the volumes of information they handle can increase productivity, decrease costs and improve the service they provide to clients. Much of the information lawyers deliver (briefs, pleadings, correspondence, opinion letters, forms, contracts) is already created electronically—only to be printed to the ancient media of paper. Even the information from clients and other outside sources received in hard copy can be converted to a digital format that is easier to store, search and retrieve information from than paper.
On Thursday, November 20, LPM will present Winning Alternatives to the Billable Hour, featuring ABA authors Mark Robertson and Jim Calloway. As the legal market becomes increasingly more competitive, lawyers must find ways to differentiate their services and illustrate the value they bring their clients. One way to do this is through alternatives to the billable hour. You’ll learn, from two lawyers who literally wrote the book on alternatives to the billable hour, how clients perceive the value of legal services; how lawyers can assess the value of their own services; the potential points of difference between these perspectives; specific alternative billing structures; and more!
ABA and LPM members receive substantial discounts on LPM CLE teleconference programs. To register, please visit www.lawpractice.org/cle.
New interactive opportunities from the LPM Core Groups.
