The ABA Law Practice Management Section has long been a leader in providing education in core law office management issues, through LPM's periodicals, books and CLE programs. And as many members are learning, practice management is about more than office management. Successful ABA TECHSHOW. LPM's annual ABA TECHSHOW® was held in Chicago March 22-24, 2007, attracting its highest registration in years. The three-day conference featured a keynote address from Judge Shira Sheindlin, and the two-day expo featured more than 100 sponsors and exhibiting companies. Upcoming CLE teleconferences. LPM continues its popular monthly CLE teleconference series with spring programs on managing potential conflicts of interest and on delegation of legal work. LPM members receive substantial savings on registration fees.
On April 19, the teleconference Conflicts and Conflict Waivers will examine the ethical rules relating to conflicts of interest, including how to spot actual and potential conflicts that may arise from current and former representations. The panel will also address when a client's consent should and should not be sought to continue a representation despite a conflict, and how best to memorialize a consultation with a client regarding a waiveable conflict and a client's consent to a representation despite such a conflict. The use of ethical screens, both with and without consent, and advance requests for waivers of future conflicts will also be examined.

Make plans for San Francisco! The LPM Section has a full slate of activities and programs for the Annual Meeting in San Francisco this August. New fall conferences on women lawyers, marketing strategies. Plans are in place for two new LPM conferences this fall. In connection with the LPM Section Fall Meeting, the ABA Women Rainmakers will present a Women Lawyers' Mid-Career Workshop , October 20-22, at the Westin Rio Mar Beach Golf Resort and Spa in Puerto Rico. The workshop will offer an interactive forum developed to provide valuable insight and enhance the performance of the mid-career woman lawyer. Participants will be able to network, engage in focused topical discussions with knowledgeable legal professionals, and learn how to use tools to help assess their careers, client relationships and personal lifestyle requirements to maximize rainmaking opportunities. In November, LPM will present the Law Firm Marketing Strategies Conference , a comprehensive two-day program for lawyers, firm executives and marketing directors.
