New Apps for Time Matters and Firm Manager for Solos
has released two new applications designed to work on a broad range of mobile platforms: Time Matters Mobility and Firm Manager. Time Matters Mobility is a secure, Webbased, mobile service that is offered as part of Time Matters Version 11. The mobile app provides lawyers access to critical Time Matters features—matter information, time and expense tracking and contacts—using their Internet-connected smartphones or other mobile devices. Time Matters v11 software is locally installed at the customer’s site; data is not stored on the mobile device. The Firm Manager app is a mobile-optimized version of LexisNexis Firm Manager, the Web-based practice management application designed specifically for solo practitioners and firms of one to five attorneys. Firm Manager is a secure SaaS application that provides users a single “dashboard” view of cases, upcoming appointments, meetings and tasks, deadlines and e-mail messages. Neither app requires software installation on the user’s smartphone, nor do they require synchronization with the user’s computer. Users gain access to the apps by simply logging into the Time Matters or Firm Manager secure mobility site from their smartphones or tablets.

Next Generation of Digital Dictation Technology
BigHand 4
is a major new edition of the legal digital dictation software. In addition to a slew of enhanced features, BigHand 4 supports the Android operating system for dictation on a variety of devices, including the HTC Desire, the Motorola Milestone 2 and the Samsung Galaxy S. Features include enhanced Mobile E-mail Integration, allowing users to attach an e-mail to a voice file, or insert an existing attachment, and forward to admin support for faster document turnaround; Advanced Multistep Workflow; and Practice Builder, which enables users to build client and matter lists with pre-profiled voice files, ready for authors to record against during a deposition. In addition, Send Anywhere allows authors to dynamically choose the recipient of their voice file without the need for admin to create a new workflow. Security is improved with the Confidential Dictations feature—authors can mark a dictation as confidential by checking a tick box, without the need to create confidential workflows. Plus, users can use Bookmarking to bookmark points for reference within a voice file and add additional notes.
