On 6/30/10, the House agreed, by a 237-192 vote, to the conference report to accompany HR 4173, financial regulatory reform legislation.
On 7/1/10, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), announced a request for public comment on a proposed project, the Youth Knowledge, Attitudes, and Feedback to Inform Choose Respect Implementation, which seeks to understand youths’ knowledge and attitudes regarding healthy and unhealthy dating relationships, and to obtain feedback regarding message development and placement, creative executions, appropriate partners, and other issues. On 6/29/10, the Senate continued consideration of the nomination of Elena Kagan, of Massachusetts, to be Associate Justice of the United States Supreme Court. Hearings are scheduled through 7/1/10.

On 6/30/10, the House passed HR 5610, to provide a technical adjustment with respect to funding for independent living centers under the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 in order to ensure stability for such centers.

On 7/1/10, the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, HHS, announced a 7/23/10 meeting in Rockville, MD, of the National Advisory Council for Healthcare Research and Quality to discuss quality improvement and health disparities, and to hear an update from the agency director on current research, programs, and initiatives. On 7/1/10, HHS announced the establishment of the Advisory Group on Prevention, Health Promotion, and Integrative and Public Health, which will develop policy and program recommendations and advise the National Prevention, Health Promotion, and Public Health Council on lifestyle-based chronic disease prevention and management, integrative health care practices, and health promotion. On 6/30/10, the Senate Indian Affairs Committee approved S 3235, to amend the act titled “An act to authorize the leasing of restricted Indian lands for public, religious, educational, recreational, residential, business, and other purposes requiring the grant of long-term leases,” approved 8/9/55, to provide for Indian tribes to enter into certain leases without prior express approval from the secretary of the Interior.

On 6/30/10, the Senate Finance Committee approved SJ Res 29, approving the renewal of import restrictions contained in the Burmese Freedom and Democracy Act of 2003.

On 7/1/10, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), Department of Homeland Security (DHS), announced a request for public comment on a proposed revision to a currently approved information collection, the FEMA Grants Administration/Non-Disaster Grants System, which FEMA uses to evaluate applications for grants for various disaster-related and non-disaster grant opportunities which is administers. On 7/1/10, FEMA, DHS, announced a request for public comment on a new information collection, the State Homeland Security Program – Tribal, which provides supplemental funding to directly eligible tribes to help strengthen the nation against risks associated with potential terrorist attacks. On 6/30/10, the Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works approved S 3305, to amend the Oil Pollution Act of 1990 to require oil polluters to pay the full cost of oil spills; and S 3515, to authorize and enhance the programs of the Department of the Interior relating to the detection of, response to, and mitigation and cleanup of oil spills on federal land managed by the Department.
On 6/30/10, the Senate passed HR 5569, to extend the National Flood Insurance Program until 9/30/10.
On 7/1/10, the Health Resources and Services Administration, HHS, announced a request for public comment on the draft Federal Tort Claims Act Policy Manual, which intends to convey guidance regarding existing policy and current processes and to serve as the principal policy resource on Federal Tort Claims Act matters for Health Center Program grantees and related stakeholders. On 7/1/10, the Veterans’ Employment and Training Service (VETS), Department of Labor, announced a request for public comment on a submitted information collection, the VETS/Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Rights Act (USERRA)/Veterans Preference (VP) Form, which is used by VETS to determine eligibility, and which serves as an official notification that the claimant requested assistance in obtaining rights under VP or USERRA.
