On 12/1/09, the Senate Judiciary Committee concluded a hearing to examine the nomination of O. Rogeriee Thompson, of Rhode Island, to be United States Circuit Judge for the First Circuit.  
On 12/1/09, the Senate confirmed, by a unanimous vote of 97-0, the nomination of Jacqueline H. Nguyen, of California, to be United States District Judge for the Central District of California.
The Constitution, Civil Rights, and Civil Liberties Subcommittee, House Judiciary Committee, will hold a hearing titled “The Impact of Federal Habeas Corpus Limitations on Death Penalty Appeals.” 12/8/09, 1 pm, 2237 Rayburn.

Presidential Action  
On 11/25/09, the president issued an executive order declaring 12/1/09 “World AIDS Day,” and urging the governors of the states and territories subject to the jurisdiction of the United States to join with the American people in appropriate activities to remember those who have lost their lives to AIDS, and to provide support and comfort to those living with the disease. On 12/2/09, the State Department announced a 12/14/09 meeting in Washington, DC, of the Organization of American States Specialized Conference on Private International Law Study Group to obtain views on consumer rights in private international law, and to discuss the Inter-American Convention on the Law Applicable to International Contracts. On 12/2/09, the Wage and Hour Division (WHD), Department of Labor, announced a request for public comment on a proposed extension to existing information collections, the Employment Information Forms, which provide a method for WHD to obtain information from complainants regarding alleged violations of the labor standards that the agency administers and enforces.
