On 6/11/08, the HIV/AIDS Bureau, Health Resources and Services Administration, Department of Health and Human Services, issued a final notice amending the uniform waiver standards for Ryan White HIV/AIDS Program grantees requesting a core medical services waiver for fiscal year 2009 and beyond. The Commerce, Justice, Science and Related Agencies Subcommittee, House Appropriations Committee, will mark up draft legislation for fiscal year 2009 funding for programs under its jurisdiction. 6/12/08, 11:30 am, H-140 Capitol.
The House Judiciary Committee will mark up HR 4044, to amend the Bankruptcy Abuse Prevention and Consumer Protection Act of 2005 to exempt from the means test in bankruptcy cases, for a limited period, qualifying reserve-component members who, after 9/11/01, are called to active duty or to perform a homeland defense activity for not less than 60 days. 6/11/08, 10:15 am, 2141 Rayburn.
On 6/11/08, the Office of Child Support Enforcement, Department of Health and Human Services, issued and requested comments on a notice of proposed rulemaking to enable tribes and tribal organizations to receive direct federal funding for automated data processing systems for child support programs. The Senate Judiciary Committee will hold a hearing on ways to respond to the growing need for additional federal judges. 6/17/08, 2:30 pm, 226 Dirksen. Floor Action On 6/10/08, the Senate, by unanimous vote of 94 yeas, confirmed the nomination of Mark S. Davis , of Virginia, to be United States District Judge for the Eastern District of Virginia; and, by voice vote, the nominations of David Gregory Kays , of Missouri, to be United States District Judge for the Western District of Missouri; and Stephen N. Limbaugh Jr. , of Missouri, to be United States District Judge for the Eastern District of Missouri.

On 6/10/08, the Subcommittee on Crime, Terrorism and Homeland Security, House Judiciary Committee, approved HR 3546, to authorize the Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant Program at fiscal year 2006 funding levels through 2012.

The Senate Judiciary Committee will hold a hearing titled “Protecting Consumers by Protecting Intellectual Property,” 6/17/08, 10 am, 226 Dirksen.
On 6/10/08, the House passed, by a 311-106 vote, HR 6028, the Merida Initiative to Combat Illicit Narcotics and Reduce Organized Crime Authorization Act of 2008, amended, to authorize law enforcement and security assistance, and assistance to enhance the rule of law and strengthen civilian institutions, for Mexico and the countries of Central America.
On 6/10/08, the House passed H Con Res 322, amended, to recognize the 60 th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
The Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee will hold a hearing titled “Protecting Personal Information: Is the Federal Government Doing Enough?” 6/18/08, 10 am, 342 Dirksen.
The National Security and Foreign Affairs Subcommittee, House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, will hold an oversight hearing on the antiterrorism assistance program, focusing on efforts to train and equip police and enhance the justice system in Afghanistan. 6/18/08, 2 pm, 2154 Rayburn.
On 6/10/08, the Senate failed, by a 50-44 vote, to garner the three-fifths vote required to close further debate on the motion to proceed to consideration of HR 6049, the Energy and Tax Extenders Act.
