On 12/10/08, the Department of Justice (DOJ) finalized two interim rules, effective 1/9/09, concerning the scope of qualifying federal offenses for purposes of DNA-sample collection and a requirement to preserve biological evidence in federal criminal cases in which defendants are under sentences of imprisonment.
