Judges face ethical dilemmas, just as lawyers do, which impact rulings, decisions, and judicial demeanor and attitude. What do you, as a litigator, need to know so that your case is decided fairly and efficiently? How can the code of judicial conduct affect your case and your client? Asking a judge to do something that may cause that judge to violate the code of judicial conduct could require disqualification and delay your case. How does the judge balance the duties of impartiality and fairness, especially with self-represented individuals. How do the ethical considerations of lawyers and judges differ and impact each other?

This program is designed to give a brief overview of the ABA Judicial Canons and Rules then focus on judicial ethical considerations which may impact your case. In this first in a series of webinars, our panel of four judges will explore the intersection between the lawyer's role and judicial ethics:

    • What is the role of the judge when there is a self-represented litigant in your case
    • A lawyer's guide to getting the Judge involved in your civic, charitable, and promotional activities
    • A lawyer's dos and don'ts of ex parte communications with the judge
