The majority of state and local jurisdictions do not have in place a suitable process for public purchasing, which can result in problems ranging from mistakes to allegations of fraud and criminal misconduct. Revising current public procurement processes to include the recognized best practices in the 2000 Model Procurement Code can bring immediate improvement to public contract administration.
