Since 1986, most of the states have enacted their own versions of a False Claims Act modeled on the federal False Claims Act (FCA). As the federal government began collecting larger and more frequent recoveries under the FCA, state governments realized that they were also victims of procurement fraud, and that they too could benefit by enacting similar provisions in state law.

State False Claims Acts: A Practitioners Guide to the False Claims Laws of Various States offers a convenient, single-volume resource to the provision of each states False Claims Act. Because nearly all of the state false claims laws are in some way modeled on the federal act, the books initial chapter examines the provisions of the federal FCA. Following this introduction to the federal acts framework, the state false claims laws are explained in individual chapters that follow a standard template for convenient analysis and comparison of multiple state laws. Each chapter provides an overview of that states false claims law, and describes how the provisions of each state act compare to, and differ from, the analogous provisions in the federal FCA.
