Challenges to preserving the resiliency, reliability, and sustainability of the electric power grid are arising as new technologies fundamental to grid modernization have become the subject of multiple distinct regulatory frameworks overseeing a wide array of firms and industries. Conflicts over current or potentially constrained legal rights to resources and the management thereof are leading to national security and/or economic issues caused by future natural disaster or cybersecurity systems disruptions. Experts on this program will examine three such areas: (1) critical operating interfaces between power and telecommunications systems; (2) cybersecurity impacted interfaces between the grid and distributed Internet of Things (IoT) devices; (3) environmental sustainability of energy storage system development patterns.
