Mid-Year Meeting in Denver Delivers
the Best of ABA Law Practice Management

Over 150 law practice management professionals convened in late January to attend the ABA Law Practice Management Section's Mid-Year Meeting in Denver, Colorado - a place where council business, networking and roundtable discussions, stimulating CLE sessions, gourmet dining, and a day on the slopes was all in a few days' work!

The primary focus of the meeting was a full-day educational program, The Best of ABA Law Practice Management, which provided instruction in the four core areas of law practice management - marketing, management, technology and finance, and on the Internet. CLE was offered in conjunction with the Colorado Bar Association and attracted attendees from throughout the United States and as far away as Puerto Rico. Speakers were leaders in the field of practice management, and included noted authors Arthur Greene, who spoke about Smart Staffing for Solo and Small Firms, and Bill Gibson and Greg Siskind who primed the audience on Internet affairs with Using the Web to Manage Your Practice. LPM Author David Bilinsky and his co-presenter Reid Trautz provided valuable information on finance when they spoke on Ten Financial Mistakes Small Firms Make (And How to Avoid Them). The technology and marketing portions of the program received high marks from participants and covered identifying and making effective use of the top ten technology tools, and attracting good clients with limited financial and human resources.

Social events included an evening reception for attendees and the leadership of the Colorado Bar Association at the law offices of Holland and Hart, which included a tour and demonstration of their considerable technological resources. LPM Chair John Tredennick and his wife also graciously hosted a reception at her cooking school, Cook Street, which was a gustatory event appreciated by all. Special guests at Cook Street were trustees of the College of Law Practice Management, most whom are old friends of the Section. Those who were able stayed for a trip on Denver's famed Ski Train up to Winter Park Resort, where they enjoyed any one of a number of winter sports, including skiing, snowmobiling, and snowshoeing.

LPM's next meeting will be the 2 003 Law Practice Summit held at the Four Seasons Hotel in Austin, Texas, May 1-4. The CLE program in Austin, Meeting the Challenges of Management in a Changing Market, promises to be just as engaging as at the mid-year meeting, with a varied format including panel discussions and breakout sessions.
