GENERAL PRACTICE, SOLO AND SMALL FIRM
Help Is on the Way for General Practice, Solo, and Small Firms
During these economic times, the GP|Solo Division is working even harder to help solo and small firm lawyers with their practices. You may be questioning the time and expense of your membership. This issue is just one example of how the Division is trying to save you time and money by providing you with a quick digest of some of the best information derived from the ABA Section, Division, and Forum publications of the past year.
This is the 12th year of Best of ABA Sections. As noted in the inaugural issue, the American Bar Association is known as a “factory of knowledge about the law and lawyering.” The ABA at its heart has the mission of generating information, perspectives, and tools that help members of the legal profession do their work better, more efficiently, and more effectively. The ABA brings together the great minds of the legal profession through its Sections, Divisions, and Forums. These entities generate the information and knowledge that serve lawyers from San Diego to San Juan, from Portland, Oregon, to Portland, Maine, and all places in between.
We encourage you to take advantage of what the ABA and specifically the GP|Solo Division has to offer. Membership in GP|Solo provides you with information and opportunities keyed to your needs. Our Division is the ABA home for lawyers in general practice and in solo and small firms. We provide resources for lawyers in transition from a big firm, corporate practice, or the breakup of a small firm. We also appeal to young lawyers, military lawyers, law school faculty, and law students across a wide spectrum of the legal practice.
The Division has more than 40 substantive committees in practice areas ranging from elder law to juvenile law, from bankruptcy to taxation. You can choose membership in these committees and enhance your knowledge.
Membership also entitles you to discounts on best- selling books that provide practical, how-to information on improving your practice skills and broadening your substantive legal areas.
We offer the Best of ABA Sections at a significantly reduced cost to all ABA Sections, Divisions, and Forums, as well as all state bar associations. The Massachusetts Bar Association and the Louisiana State Bar Association, among others, have taken advantage of this offer in the past.
Let us know if your bar association wants to join in the distribution of the Best of ABA Sections magazine every March and September. We can send the magazines as another way to “touch” or make contact with members in your state. If you have any questions or would like additional information on how to get involved, please contact Robert Salkin, GPSolo Staff Editor, at 312/988-6076 or by e-mail at Robert.Salkin@americanbar.org.
Thanks for being a member of the GP|Solo Division!
