ABA Petitions Bars to Promote Healthcare Directive
The ABA's Commission on Law and Aging is working with bar associations and other organizations to promote National Healthcare Decisions Day, April 16. The effort encourages people to execute an advance healthcare directive, which only 29% of Americans have. More than 100 organizations have joined the effort. Bars Dominate Law Day Awards
The New York State, Houston, and Palm Beach County bar associations, along with Constitutional Rights Foundation Chicago, have been announced as winners of the ABA's 2007 Outstanding Law Day Activity Awards. The organizations will be honored at the ABA's 2008 Midyear Meeting in Los Angeles.

Nomination Period Opens for Gov't Lawyer Awards
The nomination period is open for the Jefferson Fordham Awards, which honor outstanding state and local government lawyers and law offices. The nomination deadline is March 7. Nomination Period Opens for Professionalism Award
The Standing Committee on Professionalism is accepting nominations for the E. Smythe Gambrell Awards, which recognize projects that enhance lawyer professionalism. Bar associations and other law-related organizations are eligible. Up to three winners will receive the $3,500 award, to be presented during the ABA's 2008 Annual Meeting in New York City.

Nomination Period Opens for Legal Services Award
The ABA is accepting nominations for the 2008 Harrison Tweed Award, which recognizes bar association projects and programs that increase legal services access for the poor. The award will be presented in August at the ABA Annual Meeting in New York, for work done between April 1, 2007 and March 31, 2008.

The ABA Senior Lawyers Division is accepting nominations for the 2008 John H. Pickering Award of Achievement. The award honors lawyers or judges who improve access to justice. The deadline for nominations is February 15. For more on the award, including the nomination form, click here.
YLD Seeks Applicants for Subgrants
The ABA YLD is seeking applicants for its subgrant program. The program awards up to $2,000 to young lawyer organizations to develop public service projects, and up to $500 for bar leadership and member services projects. The application deadline is March 15. For more on the program, click here.

The ABA's Young Lawyers Division is accepting nominations for its Child Advocacy Award, which honors lawyers and judges who perform distinguished service on behalf of children. The ABA's Division for Public Education has released its 2008 Law Day Planning Guide and Resource Catalog. The guide is available for free download at the Law Day Web site. Free hard copies will be mailed upon request.

BASF Report on Gay Lawyer Issues
The Bar Association of San Francisco has released a report on issues faced by lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender lawyers. The report, available for free download on the bar's Web site, includes best practices and other recommendations for legal employers.

Foreclosure Assistance Program Seeks Funding
The Institute for Foreclosure Legal Assistance (IFLA) is soliciting proposals from non-profit organizations to fund legal programs for homeowners facing foreclosure. The institute has posted a budget worksheet, sustainability planning worksheet, and application for interested organizations.
