The Media Relations and Strategic Communications Division will present the fourth American Bar Association Survey of Civic Literacy rollout event on Friday, April 29, at noon EDT. Conducted annually in celebration of Law Day, the survey measures the American public’s civics knowledge as well as their views on a range of topical issues, including measures affecting voting rights and access.
This virtual event will feature ABA President Reginald M. Turner and a distinguished panel of guests who will discuss the survey results on voting rights and access.
Featured panelists:
- Yamiche Alcindor (moderator) – Washington correspondent for NBC News; moderator for PBS’ “Washington Week”; former reporter for The New York Times and USA Today
- Amir Badat – Manager of the Voting Rights Defender and Prepared to Vote Projects and as voting special counsel at the NAACP Legal Defense Fund. Amir leads LDF’s year-round election protection and voter education efforts.
- Wendy K. Mariner – Former chair of ABA Section of Civil Rights & Social Justice and founder of the Task Force on Fair Elections and Voting Rights; professor emerita, Health Law, Ethics & Human Rights, Boston University School of Public Health
- Phillip J. Strach – Partner at Nelson Mullins in Raleigh, N.C.; litigator for both plaintiffs and states in redistricting cases for 20 years, including those in North Carolina and Ohio
