Tax enforcement, technology on agenda at ABA May Tax Meeting, May 8-10

WASHINGTON, May 1, 2025 – Tax simplification, artificial intelligence and taxpayer privacy will be part of the lineup at the American Bar Association 2025 May Tax Meeting to be held May 8-10 at the Marriott Marquis in Washington. The conference, sponsored by the ABA Section of Taxation, attracts the country’s leading tax attorneys and officials to focus on the latest developments in tax law.

The noon luncheon plenary on Saturday, May 10, will feature a discussion on reclaiming U.S. tax sovereignty with Michael Graetz, a professor emeritus at Columbia and Yale Law Schools and author of “The Power to Destroy — How the Antitax Movement Hijacked America,” and Loren Ponds, a tax partner at Skadden in Washington, D.C. The conversation will explore how changes in the world order, recently enacted U.S. international tax provisions and the federal government’s debt and deficits make now the time for the U.S. to reclaim tax sovereignty.

More than 80 sessions will cover a host of topics that range from corporate tax and employee benefits to cryptocurrency and investment management. They include:

  • “The Impact of Tariffs on Transfer Pricing Compliance and Planning”
  • “Understanding the Current State of Play at the IRS”
  • Zuch v Commissioner: Supreme Court to Tackle Offsets and Mootness Issues”
  • “Imposters, Unknowns and Accession to Wealth: Revisiting the Tax Consequences of Scams in 2025”
  • “No Tax on Tips: A Game Changer?”
