Seattle lawyer honored with ABA Rosner & Rosner Young Lawyers Professionalism Award

CHICAGO, May 15, 2025 — The American Bar Association Center for Professional Responsibility is proud to announce Mason Ji as the recipient of the 2025 ABA Rosner & Rosner Young Lawyers Professionalism Award. Since 2021, Ji has been an associate at Perkins Coie LLP in Seattle, where he practices complex commercial litigation and cross-border regulatory advice.

A Rhodes Scholar, Ji has made significant contributions to advancing legal and judicial ethics, lawyer professionalism, client protection and professional regulation. He has been commended in his practice for holding opposing counsel accountable when their demands are unreasonable or infringe upon the attorney-client privilege, and for his work on the significant issue of preserving privilege in discovery in the U.S.-China cross-border context. On the latter issue, he has authored multiple publications in outlets such as Bloomberg Law, Law360 and the ABA Criminal Justice Section Newsletter.

In addition to his professional excellence, Ji is an avid speaker on the international rule of law. He has lectured frequently on the subject at the University of Oxford and the University of Washington School of Law, where he has also served on doctoral committees.

Ji is also active in local, state and national bar associations in promoting young lawyer professionalism. He is chair of the Washington State Bar Association’s Young Lawyers Committee, a board member of the King County Bar Association’s New Lawyers Division and the District Representative to the ABA Young Lawyers Division for Washington and Oregon, where he has advocated for judicial ethics reform.

Outside his professional life, Ji is a committed community leader. He founded two nonprofits — Friends of Bellevue Cross-Cultural Center and Asian Americans for Justice and Equality — and hosts a bilingual legal education radio program, “Decoding America,” serving at-risk communities in the Seattle area.

Ji will be presented with the award on May 29, during the 2025 ABA National Conference on Professional Responsibility at The Ritz-Carlton, Pentagon City in Arlington, Virginia.
