In a world where threats of violence have become more common in our public discourse, Dr. King’s message of nonviolence becomes even more relevant. Fighting tirelessly for justice and equality through communication and understanding is a lesson we all may heed. Dr. King called nonviolent protest a weapon “that cuts without wounding and ennobles the man who wields it.” Reaching solutions in a peaceful manner is our best path to move forward.

The ABA is committed to promoting equality, equity and justice in the legal profession and society. We honor Dr. King’s work by continuing to fight for these beliefs through the rule of law and honor the trailblazers who gave their lives to make our country more just and fair.
