The theme of the fall conference is “100 years of the ABA in the United Kingdom: Tradition, Innovation and Influence.” ABA President Bill Bay, as well as a number of past ABA presidents, will be participating. Special speakers include Lord Lloyd-Jones, retired justice, U.K. Supreme Court; Lord John Thomas, Lord Chief Justice of England & Wales, also retired; Diane P. Wood, retired chief judge, U.S. Court of Appeals for the 7th Circuit; and Barbara M.G. Lynn, chief judge, U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Texas.
Among the timely issues to be addressed during the conference are business law, competition, dispute resolution, intellectual property, legal ethics, practice of law, private wealth management and trade/sanctions.
“The centenary will naturally look back at Anglo-American legal experiences that shape current practices,” Jeffrey Golden, a former chair of the International Law Section who helped plan the conference, recently said in an ABA Journal article. “At the same time, we will be gazing ahead, asking how we preserve our status as a ‘learned profession,’ what innovations can improve our ethics and diversity and which steps will ensure we continue to attract the best and the brightest to the law.”
The full agenda for the conference is here. While all sessions are open to the media, reporters are required to register in advance by 5 p.m. ET, Wednesday, Nov. 13, by contacting Bill Choyke at [email protected].
