The ABA remains steadfast in our commitment to justice and the rule of law, but we cannot do it alone. This week marks National Pro Bono Week, which is set aside to help those in need of legal assistance and to celebrate the work lawyers do every day.
You play a crucial role in our legal system, providing essential representation to those who might otherwise lack access to justice. Your work is integral to ensuring a cohesive and inclusive society that protects the civil rights of all citizens and upholds the principles of justice that are the bedrock of our democracy.
It is in our DNA to help when people are in need. As we commemorate this year’s theme, "Making Justice a Reality in Our Communities," I urge all of you to volunteer in pro bono work in your communities. Together we can make a difference in the lives of people who need legal help.
In addition, ABA Giving Day is Thursday, Oct. 24. Giving Day is a powerful fundraising event dedicated to raising essential resources needed for programs that expand access to justice, promote civic education and voting rights, advocate for environmental and social justice, and much more. Donations will help provide free legal services, assist underserved populations and promote diversity in the legal profession.
Let’s put the ABA motto into action: Together we can defend liberty and pursue justice, and demonstrate our combined power to close the justice gap.
