Behnam was sworn in as the CFTC’s 15th chairman on Jan. 4, 2022, after being unanimously confirmed by the U.S. Senate. Previously, he served as CFTC commissioner since September 2017, and as acting chairman for about a year prior to his confirmation as chairman.
In his CFTC capacity, Behnam has convened leading market experts and public interest groups to engage in public dialogue on such timely issues as global interest rate benchmark reform, central counterparty risk and governance, evolving market structures and, since the summer of 2019, climate-related market risk. He will be the keynote speaker at a luncheon from 1:15-2:30 p.m. Friday at the Bayview Ballroom.
Two other CFTC commissioners — Kristin Johnson and Caroline Pham — will participate in the plenary “wrap-up/looking forward” session from 11 a.m.-12:15 p.m. Saturday at the Vanderbilt Ballroom.
