DENVER, Aug. 2, 2023 – American Bar Association President Deborah Enix-Ross will award an ABA Presidential Citation Friday morning to Jonathan D. Asher of Denver at the 2023 ABA Annual Meeting in the city.
Throughout his career and more than 50-year membership in the ABA, Asher has made noteworthy contributions to the legal profession. He has displayed exemplary and vital leadership benefiting the justice system and that has measurably enhanced the recognition of law as a respected profession, as well as significant long-term contributions to the ABA and to access to justice, and notable pro bono representation or advocacy.
“Jonathan Asher exemplifies the title of lawyer-leader,” Enix-Ross said. “His long career has greatly enhanced the legal profession for both its members and the people who engage with it. His dedication and contributions to the ABA are deeply appreciated.”
Before Asher’s recent retirement from Colorado Legal Services, the ABA greatly benefited from his many years of involvement. He served as chair of the ABA Commission on IOLTA and as a member of the ABA Standing Committee on Legal Aid and Indigent Defense, the ABA Commission on Homelessness and Poverty, and the ABA Standing Committee on the Delivery of Legal Services. Asher also advanced equal justice for all in his service with the Colorado Access to Justice Commission and the Colorado Bar Association.
The ABA is the largest voluntary association of lawyers in the world. As the national voice of the legal profession, the ABA works to improve the administration of justice, promotes programs that assist lawyers and judges in their work, accredits law schools, provides continuing legal education, and works to build public understanding around the world of the importance of the rule of law.
