Statement of ABA President Deborah Enix-Ross Re: International Day of Women Judges

WASHINGTON, March 10, 2023 — The American Bar Association joins the world community in celebrating the International Day of Women Judges, as we acknowledge the progress that has been made and commit to promoting the full and equal participation of women at all levels of the judiciary.

This year’s theme — “Women in Justice, Women for Justice” — aims to raise awareness of the relatively small number of women who are part of the judiciary, especially at judicial leadership positions. Increasing the number of female judges ensures that the legal system better represents all of society while also inspiring the next generation of female judges.

Today, the ABA reaffirms its commitment to the advancement of women in the judicial system and calls on all lawyers to proactively promote this goal.

The ABA is the largest voluntary association of lawyers in the world. As the national voice of the legal profession, the ABA works to improve the administration of justice, promotes programs that assist lawyers and judges in their work, accredits law schools, provides continuing legal education and works to build public understanding around the world of the importance of the rule of law.
