New Chemerinsky book explores “A Momentous Year in the Supreme Court”

CHICAGO, Nov. 28, 2022 — The American Bar Association Judicial Division has released a new book by Erwin Chemerinsky, “A Momentous Year in the Supreme Court: October Term 2021,” a review of the court’s landmark rulings of the past year and a look ahead to the 2022-23 term.

Chemerinsky, dean of the University of California at Berkeley School of Law, takes a neutral tone, neither praising nor criticizing the decisions, and organizes the case essays by topic. The book includes chapters on abortion, administrative law, civil rights, criminal law and procedure, election law, federal court jurisdiction, freedom of speech, freedom of religion, immigration, Indian law, Second Amendment law and state secrets.

Chemerinsky is a prominent scholar of the U.S. Supreme Court. He is the author of 16 books, including leading casebooks and treatises on constitutional law, criminal procedure and federal jurisdiction. He frequently argues appellate cases, including in the United States Supreme Court, and is president of the Association of American Law Schools. In 2017, National Jurist magazine named Chemerinsky the most influential person in U.S. legal education.
