Statement of ABA President Reginald Turner Re: International Women’s Day

WASHINGTON, March 8, 2022 — Today, the American Bar Association recognizes International Women's Day, a time to celebrate the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women around the globe and to work towards reaching full equality for women and girls.

The theme of International Women’s Day 2022 is #BreakTheBias. Much progress has been made towards women’s equality since International Women’s Day was first celebrated in 1911, but more work still needs to be done. The ABA remains committed to this goal and calls on all lawyers to fight for gender equality in the legal profession and all of society.

The ABA is the largest voluntary association of lawyers in the world. As the national voice of the legal profession, the ABA works to improve the administration of justice, promotes programs that assist lawyers and judges in their work, accredits law schools, provides continuing legal education, and works to build public understanding around the world of the importance of the rule of law.
