ABA President statement re: International Day of Women Judges

WASHINGTON, March 10, 2022 -- Today, the American Bar Association joins the international community in celebrating the first-ever International Day of Women Judges. As we pay tribute to female judges around the globe for their work to make the world a fairer and more just place, we are especially mindful of the grave risks that female judges of Afghanistan continue to face. The ABA thanks the United Nations for highlighting the importance of gender diversity on the bench through this day.

The ABA is the largest voluntary association of lawyers in the world. As the national voice of the legal profession, the ABA works to improve the administration of justice, promotes programs that assist lawyers and judges in their work, accredits law schools, provides continuing legal education, and works to build public understanding around the world of the importance of the rule of law.
