WASHINGTON, Dec. 10, 2021 — The American Bar Association joins with the world community today to commemorate Human Rights Day and renew our commitment to the Universal Declaration of Human Rights adopted by the United Nations in 1948.
This year, the day’s theme is “EQUALITY – Reducing inequalities, advancing human rights,” which emphasizes the principle that all human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights. Every day, the ABA promotes equality, advocating for vulnerable populations both in America and around the globe.
The ABA calls on all members of the legal profession to give their full support to defenders of human rights and reaffirm their commitment to equality, dignity and the rule of law.
The ABA is the largest voluntary association of lawyers in the world. As the national voice of the legal profession, the ABA works to improve the administration of justice, promotes programs that assist lawyers and judges in their work, accredits law schools, provides continuing legal education, and works to build public understanding around the world of the importance of the rule of law.
