ABA President Patricia Lee Refo statement Re: Constitution Day 2020
The American Bar Association asks all lawyers and law students to continue their work to support and promote the ideals and principles of the Constitution, which connects us all as Americans. For 233 years, the Constitution has given us the framework of our government and secured the rule of law. It also has helped unite us all in our common beliefs and values.
But the written words have power only if we all protect and exercise our rights, including the right to vote. By upholding the tenets of the Constitution, we honor those who came before us and dedicated their lives to these principles.
The ABA is the largest voluntary association of lawyers in the world. As the national voice of the legal profession, the ABA works to improve the administration of justice, promotes programs that assist lawyers and judges in their work, accredits law schools, provides continuing legal education, and works to build public understanding around the world of the importance of the rule of law.
