Webinar video: "Legal Deserts in America: A Threat to Justice for All."

On July 28, 2020, three experts in the field of rural justice joined ABA President Judy Perry Martinez in exploring the problems of legal deserts on the everyday lives of rural residents of California, Georgia and South Dakota – and what is being done about it. The one-hour program was titled Legal Deserts in America: A Threat to Justice for All.

ABA President Judy Perry Martinez moderated the discussion that included:

• Patrick Goetzinger of Rapid City, S.D., former president of the South Dakota State Bar Association, who helped create Project Rural Practice in South Dakota,
• Lisa Pruitt, law professor at the University of California, Davis, and lead author of "Legal Deserts: A Multi-State Perspective on Rural Access to Justice"; in the 2018 Harvard Law & Policy Review; and
• Lauren Sudeall, law professor at Georgia State University and a co-author of the Harvard article.
