ABA releases 3rd edition of “Financial Statement Analysis and Business Valuation”

CHICAGO, April 7, 2020 — The American Bar Association has released the third edition of the best-selling “Financial Statement Analysis and Business Valuation for the Practical Lawyer,” published by the Business Law Section. The guide helps lawyers gain a working knowledge of financial concepts, terminology and documents with valuable guidance to translate a client's financial goals into practical legal solutions.

Whether handling the sale of a company, negotiating a loan agreement, preparing disclosure documents or handling securities cases, this book discusses the advantages and disadvantages of various methods, explains which valuation techniques are suitable for specific situations, and weighs the risks and rewards of creating value by acquisition.

What others are saying about “Financial Statement Analysis and Business Valuation for the Practical Lawyer, Third Edition”:

“The third edition of Dickie and Russo’s book is a marvel. It is stunningly comprehensive and sophisticated, and yet accessible and practical.  It provides a baseline education for the newcomer to the subjects covered and serves as a reference manual for the veteran.”

—     Thomas A. Cole, chair emeritus of the Executive Committee of Sidley Austin LLP and lecturer at the University of Chicago Law School

“Bob Dickie and Pete Russo’s treatise is an anxiety-reliever, a great introductory source for new lawyers and reliable resource for experienced lawyers who all need a brush-up from time to time.”

—     The Honorable Leo E. Strine Jr., former chief justice of the Delaware Supreme Court

“When I began practicing law as a business lawyer 45 years ago, I soon realized I needed to understand financial statements to do a good job. Courses like The Dickie Group were not available, and I embarked on a self-taught course. I wish I had had Bob Dickie and Pete Russo’s book available then — it would have made my trek a lot easier and more informative.”

—     Steven O. Weise, partner, Proskauer Rose LLP
