In an effort to boost Puerto Rico’s economic recovery from Hurricane Maria’s devastation, the ABA House of Delegates overwhelmingly approve a resolution calling on Congress to exempt the island territory from the Jones Act, also know as the Merchant Marine Act of 1920.

Annual Meeting 2018: Delegates urge Congress to exempt Puerto Rico from outdated maritime law
Resolution 10B was adopted by the House of Delegates on Aug. 7 at the ABA Annual Meeting in Chicago.
The measure was sponsored by the New York State Bar Association and the New York City Bar Association.
