Annual Meeting 2018: Delegates urge Congress to exempt Puerto Rico from outdated maritime law

In an effort to boost Puerto Rico’s economic recovery from Hurricane Maria’s devastation, the ABA House of Delegates overwhelmingly approve a resolution calling on Congress to exempt the island territory from the Jones Act, also know as the Merchant Marine Act of 1920.

Resolution 10B was adopted by the House of Delegates on Aug. 7 at the ABA Annual Meeting in Chicago.

The measure was sponsored by the New York State Bar Association and the New York City Bar Association.
