WASHINGTON, June 12, 2017 — Robert E. Juceam, of counsel in the New York office of Fried, Frank, Harris, Shriver & Jacobson LLP, is the 2017 recipient of the John H. Pickering Award of Achievement, presented by the American Bar Association Senior Lawyers Division. Juceam will be recognized at the Senior Lawyers Division annual Pickering Award dinner on Thursday, Aug. 10, during the ABA Annual Meeting in New York City.

New York lawyer Robert E. Juceam to receive ABA 2017 Pickering Award
The award honors the life and accomplishments of John H. Pickering, cofounder of the Washington, D.C. law firm then known as Wilmer, Cutler & Pickering (now WilmerHale), who was involved in a wide variety of pro bono activities and law-related societal issues affecting the elderly. It recognizes lawyers or judges who demonstrate outstanding legal ability; and have compiled a distinguished record of service to the profession and their communities, resulting in significant contributions to improving access to justice for all.
Brooksley Born, chair, 2017 Pickering Selection Committee said, "Robert Juceam embodies the qualities that the Senior Lawyers Division seeks to honor with the John H. Pickering Achievement Award.”
She added, “He has had a brilliant legal career at the law firm of Fried Frank, has a long and distinguished record of service to the legal profession and his community and has dedicated himself to furthering access to justice, particularly in his unceasing pro bono efforts on behalf of the interests of immigrants."
Having dedicated 45 years of practice to civil and white-collar criminal law litigation, Juceam has served as lead counsel and principal investigator in major investigations involving Investment Company Act violations, internal corporate and special litigation committee investigations.
He joined the firm of Fried Frank in 1966 and has held varied legal roles including that of lead responsibility in mediation, arbitration and judicial proceedings for everything from mergers and acquisitions to securities-class actions and commercial contracts.
Juceam, 76, also has been committed to pro bono work in the area of immigration. A leader in immigration reform, Juceam, the former president of the American Immigration Lawyers Association, has led the ABA’s efforts for due process for immigrants and also asylum-seekers. In 2015, the ABA recognized him with the Presidential Citation for his leadership in immigration.
In 2013, Chief United States Circuit Judge of the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit, Robert A. Katzmann, described Juceam as, “the Pied Piper of pro bono immigrant representation for his tireless, unceasing efforts on behalf of the immigrant poor — for his leadership in the legal profession to come to the aid of those in need.”
Juceam is a graduate of Columbia Law School, where he was a Harlan Fiske Stone Scholar. He received his JD in 1972 and LLB in 1964. He received his LLM from New York University School of Law in 1966 and his AB, cum laude, from Columbia University in 1961.
