Market Access Abroad For U.S. Attorneys

Market access abroad for U.S. attorneys and law firms is an important issue for the American Bar Association. The ABA is actively working to support the ability of U.S. firms to establish offices overseas and to associate freely with foreign lawyers and law firms. In pursuit of this goal, the ABA regularly communicates and consults with the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative (USTR) and the Department of Commerce on legal services-related issues in ongoing multilateral and bilateral trade negotiations.

Transatlantic Trade And Investment Partnership

As the U.S. and the European Union negotiate this potential Free Trade Agreement, the ABA has engaged in a multi-year dialogue with representatives of the Council of Bars and Law Societies of Europe (CCBE) to exchange views on market access issues in our respective jurisdictions. The ABA is engaged in ongoing efforts to inform USTR and the Department of Commerce about barriers currently faced by U.S. lawyers and law firms seeking to provide services in the EU and to discuss potential objectives for the negotiations.

ABA International Full Firm Membership
