These two simple words represent the literal translation of the word “pro bono.” The legal profession has long been dedicated to the concept of pro bono publico, or “for the public good.” A lawyer’s obligation to help the public may be tied to fighting for a particular cause, or more often from a sense of moral, ethical, and professional obligation.
