Recent HIPAA Changes Require Action

The September 23, 2013, deadline passed for covered entities, business associates, and their subcontractors to implement new rules under the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA). In case you missed it, on January 25, 2013, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) issued an omnibus final rule modifying HIPAA. If entities have not done so already, they must act now to review policies and take necessary steps to ensure HIPAA compliance and avoid penalties.
