How Do Foreign National Victims of Trafficking Fare under the Trump Administration?

Saba Baig and Kathryn Liss

Isabella is a young 17-year-old woman from El Salvador. She met a man on Facebook, Juan, who claimed to be from El Salvador. They exchanged messages and chatted for months. Juan lived in New York and constantly told her that if she came to the United States, he would take care of all her financial needs, help her go to college, and they could travel the world. Isabella was desperate to flee the gang violence in El Salvador and had no other means of leaving. Gang members had killed Isabella’s aunt in her town and her older brother had been trying to leave another gang for more than a year. Juan paid for her plane ticket, and she flew to New York where he picked her up from the airport and took her to his apartment.
