Every attorney retained for any phase of construction litigation needs a copy of The Construction Project. The subtle nuances of any construction litigation or even pre-construction planning involve a multitude of hazards and pitfalls for any practitioner. From the opening documents on creating a construction contract, this Second Edition is a step-by-step primer on how to understand the flow of a construction project and the necessary documents to successfully complete a project.

The book is divided into several logical portions. The first section is entitled “Phases.” It is exactly what it purports to be and walks through each phase of a construction project from conception to close-out. The second portion of the book deals with “People.” This section outlines the various individuals and professionals a practitioner will encounter during the course of a construction project and their various roles.

The third chapter deals with the terms specifically used in all construction projects and helps one understand the very specified lingo associated with construction and surety bonds. The “Paperwork” section with its attached section of appendices is critical in understanding exactly what needs to be done with the construction project, the agreements necessary, and how to get the timing of those various sequences done correctly.

The final portion of the book deals with “Processes.” This section highlights in much greater detail the key processes during a construction project that can result in problems if not handled correctly. Those various processes can include bidding, the award process, contract administration, and closing out the contract.

The book has an excellent appendix with multiple sample contracts and forms that will be encountered during various construction projects.

The Construction Project is a comprehensive resource for any practitioner assisting in any construction project or construction litigation. The guide provides the basis and framework to discuss a construction project with any number of professionals associated with a construction project and to correctly complete the various phases.

The second half of the book focuses on the specific problem areas of any construction project and provides a multitude of sample documents critical for success in completing a construction project. I recommend this guide for any attorney traversing the contractual and litigation fields to successfully complete a construction project.
