From the Torrey Canyon Disaster in 1967 to the MARPOL Convention 2005 (and its amendments) and the IMO initial GHG strategy 2018, the International Shipping industry has responded to the growing need to decarbonize the world, following the reports of the scientists of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC). With the global nature of this industry and the measures set up by the IMO, stakeholders will have to be mindful of the regulatory posture the different countries will have in the global race to net zero.
