The TIPS Fall Meeting in Nassau, The Bahamas, was a huge success at the spectacular Grand Hyatt Baha Mar attended by TIPS members, their families, and guests, including the 18 members of this year’s Leadership Academy.
Before being treated to impressive local entertainment, the Plenary Session featured the presentation of the James A. Carroll Leadership Award to Mike Drumke and concluded with the incredibly well-attended Welcome Reception, where new members and stalwarts of TIPS were able to gather in fellowship along with local attorneys and Bar leaders in a beautiful outdoor setting.
Our hardworking Standing Committees, Task Forces, General Committees, and TIPS Council met throughout the three-day meeting to plan for the year ahead, report on the many ongoing projects and discuss the key issues facing our profession.
The new Leadership Academy Class had an action-packed program put together by the TIPS Task Force. The program kicked off with a presentation from recently retired Sixth Circuit Judge Bernice Donald, who shared insights and knowledge from her over 40 year legal career, that saw her go from a solo practitioner to serving as a US Court of Appeals, US District Court, and US Bankruptcy Court judge. The Leadership Academy also heard from esteemed members of the Bahamas Bar, including its president, as well as the Honorable Cecil J. Thomas of the Superior Court of Connecticut (a Leadership Academy alum), regarding his experience that ultimately brought him to the bench. Over the course of these three days, the Leadership Academy class learned about TIPS and the ABA, and most importantly, got to know one another as they will travel on this journey together over the next year (and for many years thereafter).
The new Wellness Task Force was also on display at this meeting with several fun, family- friendly, interactive, and successful events enjoyed by TIPS members, families, and guests.
The festivities concluded with a reception and dinner under the Caribbean moon. At the dinner, the section honored Jay Young with the Andrew C. Hecker Memorial Award to celebrate his leadership, enthusiasm, professionalism, and steadfast dedication to TIPS. Congratulations, Jay.
Many thanks to our fabulous TIPS staff led by Theresa Livingston, our wonderful sponsors, and our Section members who all helped to ensure the success of the Fall Meeting. Special thanks go out to the First Time Attendees for your participation and your contributions to the Fall Meeting. We hope to see you all at the Mid-Year meeting in Louisville in February, and at the Spring Conference in Los Angeles in May 2024!
