Women’s Networking Luncheon Planned for Section Conference in NYC

By Barbara-Ann M. Costello and Tamara Tomomitsu

The 2019 TIPS Section Conference is only a few short months away, and the Women Trial Lawyers Committee (WTLC) is proud to be hosting its Second Annual Women’s Networking Luncheon on Friday, May 3, 2019. In addition to enjoying lunch and having an opportunity to network with colleagues, the audience will hear from Melanie D. Margolin, senior vice president, general counsel, and corporate secretary of Wabash National Corporation. Ms. Margolin, who supervises all Wabash National Corporation’s legal affairs worldwide, will speak on issues facing women in the legal profession.

The TIPS Section Conference is the Section’s premier event and draws a wide range of participants, including plaintiff and defense counsel, in-house insurance professionals, and in-house corporate counsel and risk managers. This year the conference will be held in New York City from May 1–5, 2019.

The 2019 luncheon follows the successful launch of the WTLC’s participation at last year’s Section Conference in Los Angeles, California. The Honorable Virginia A. Phillips, chief judge for the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California, served as the keynote speaker to a packed audience.

The luncheon served as part of a Women Lawyers’ CLE track. Preceding the lunch, a distinguished panel of general counsel discussed the importance of women on trial teams and how companies are working with external counsel to ensure that diversity is addressed. It was enlightening to hear first-hand how corporations are tracking diversity among their panel counsel and how they are holding their top billers accountable for diverse representation.

The flow of information did not stop there. After the luncheon, another distinguished panel spoke on the role men play as allies and champions of women in the legal profession.

This year’s luncheon on May 3 at the Westin Times Square is a ticketed event. Because last year’s luncheon sold out, we recommend registering for the conference and securing your ticket to the luncheon as soon as you can.
