Los Angeles will host the TIPS Section Conference from May 2–5 at the Loews Hollywood Hotel. For those of us who call LA home, Hollywood is a fun and eclectic section of the city, and conference attendees should reserve some spare time to explore. Interested in some traditional Hollywood glamour? Steps from the Loews are the Hollywood Walk of Fame, the Dolby Theater, and the famous TCL Chinese Theater. The new Avengers movie will be released during the conference weekend, and there is no better place to experience it and a premovie show than at the Disney-owned El Capitan Theater a block from the Loews. Paramount Studios, site of the Section Conference gala dinner on May 3, offers studio tours featuring everything from Forest Gump’s bench to the sets of some of the most popular shows and movies today.

“My Los Angeles”: TIPS Spring Meeting/Section Conference, May 2–5, 2018
Do you enjoy live music? The Sunset Strip is a fast cab ride away, where you can sample acts at the Roxy, the Viper Room, and many other clubs. The Hollywood Bowl—a short walk from the Loews—will host the Yeah Yeah Yeahs in concert during the conference, while the Pantages Theatre will feature Andrew Lloyd Webber’s acclaimed School of Rock musical.
LA’s world-class museums are a must-see, including the Getty, the new Broad Contemporary Museum of Art, the incredible Getty Villa, and, of course, the Los Angeles County Museum of Art. Any trip to LA also requires a visit to the beach. It is a short trip to some of the best beaches that Southern California has to offer, including Santa Monica with its family friendly pier, shopping, and first-rate restaurants and bars.
While “glamorous” and “hiking” are not necessarily two words you typically find together, a short cab ride away is Runyon Canyon, where you would be hard-pressed not to experience a celebrity sighting. A trek to the iconic Hollywood Sign is the ultimate in rewarding hikes in this area and offers incredible views of the city as well as the ocean on a clear day.
For the sports enthusiast, while the Dodgers are away the weekend of the conference, the Anaheim Angels will be playing the Orioles during the first two days TIPS convenes in LA. If you are already in nearby Anaheim, why not visit Disneyland? The original classic is hard to beat, and the highly anticipated Pixar Fest, opening in April, will be under way at Disneyland California Adventure.
With respect to dining, some of the best restaurants in LA are located near or a short cab ride away from TIPS’s hotel. Musso and Frank is a classic Hollywood vintage restaurant where you can easily picture Clark Gable sitting in a booth back in the day. Michelin-starred Providence is a stone’s throw from the hotel and is considered one of the best restaurants in the entire city, while Osteria Mozza and its neighbor, Pizzeria Mozza, are chef Nancy Silverton’s popular and worth-the-wait restaurants, only a short drive away.
We look forward to hosting you in our great city in May!
