The Liberty Achievement Award was presented to the Honorable Lourdes Ventura on May 1 during the Welcome Reception at the Westin Times Square. Ventura is currently judge of the Civil Court of the City of New York in Queens County. She previously focused on civil litigation as a partner at Ahmuty, Demers & McManus. As a former assistant attorney general for the Civil Rights Bureau of the New York State Attorney General’s Office, Ventura prosecuted cases and investigated complaints involving discrimination in housing, education, and other areas.
Ventura was the first Latina to serve as president of the Queens County Women’s Bar Association and is also past president of the Latino Lawyers Association of Queens County. Under her leadership, Latino Lawyers was the recipient of the New York State Bar Association 2005 Award of Merit for a local bar association for its work with the Street Law en Español program.
2020 Section Conference Slated for Nashville

The TIPS Section Business Meeting will be held at the Marriott Marquis, San Francisco, on Saturday, August 10, from 10:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. The meeting will include the official election of TIPS officers and Council members for the 2019–2020 bar year.
