Please submit your application for the TIPS Young Lawyer Vice Chair Program by March 1.
Thank you for your interest in becoming a vice chair leader within the Tort Trial and Insurance Practice Section (“TIPS”) of the American Bar Association. Young Lawyer Vice Chairs are chosen through an application process. The following will provide you with information on the “Vice Chair” leadership positions designed to give you exposure to preeminent speakers and leaders, and an opportunity to publish, speak on panels and brand yourself, and opportunities for professional and business development.
TIPS is composed of various General Committees, Standing Committees, and Taskforces that focus on substantive areas of the law and legal practice, such as Business Litigation, Cybersecurity & Data Privacy, Animal Law, Women Trial Lawyers, and Plaintiffs Policy Task Force. A full list of General Committees, Standing Committees, and Taskforces is here. A listing of available committees for this program is included in the application.
Scholarships are available to help defray costs associated with in-person meeting attendance; information and an application for a scholarship are available online.
Thank you for your interest in TIPS, and we look forward to working with you in the future.
Chair, Committee on Outreach to Young Lawyers
DESCRIPTION OF POSITION:
TIPS appoints 1 – 2 young lawyers to serve as the Young Lawyer Vice Chair(s) of each of its substantive law General Committees, Standing Committees, and Taskforces. Vice Chair duties are flexible and tailored to the interests of the Vice Chair and needs of the committee Chair. Duties could include writing articles, publishing newsletters, designing CLE programs, organizing and presenting CLE material, speaking engagements, event planning, or membership outreach, to name a few. Vice Chair positions are not funded by TIPS.
All Young Lawyer Vice Chairs also serve as ex-officio members on the TIPS Committee on Outreach to Young Lawyers. This is not a General Committee, but rather a Standing Committee that focuses on TIPS’ efforts to encourage membership among young lawyers
To be eligible for a position as a Vice Chair, YOU MUST BE A MEMBER OF TIPS. If you are not yet a member, please join by visiting ambar.org/jointips and selecting the Tort Trial and Insurance Practice Section.
TIPS has four meetings per year. Two are ABA meetings – Midyear and Annual, and TIPS has two standalone meetings – Fall Leadership and Section Conference. As mentioned earlier, information and an application for the TIPS Scholarship Fund are available to defray the cost of meeting attendance. Vice Chairs are not required to attend meetings, but are encouraged to do so.
The review process for Vice Chair applications begins March 1. You will receive email confirmation once your application has been submitted. TIPS cannot guarantee that applications submitted after March 1 will be considered for the appointed calendar year. If you have a strong interest in a particular General Committee, Standing Committee, or Taskforce, you are encouraged to submit a brief statement explaining your interest. Please attach your résumé and any supporting statement when you submit the completed application by March 1, 2018
