The U.S.A. of Today

Robert S. Steinberg

(To the tune of Mountain Greenery by Richard Rogers and Lorenz Hart; First recording by Roger Wolfe Kahn and His Orchestra (May 27, 1926); by Ella Fitzgerald, 1956 in her Rodgers and Hart Song Book Album.)

Congress lacks the bravery
To resist chicanery.
Two sides fight like Cain and his brother.

As the nation’s problems grow,
Do they try to solve ‘em? No!
They just go on trashing each other.

To tax or not?
Tempers so hot,
A snake-pit’s what
That White Dome covers.

Meanwhile there’s no governing,
Elections always hovering.
Bless The U.S.A. of Today!
