Do you have ideas of how the organization might change to be more inclusive, more relevant, and more impactful to its members and the tax system? Do you know another member who has great ideas? The Nominating Committee of the ABA Tax Section seeks nominations for new members of the leadership Council to serve from August 2023 to August 2024.
The leadership Council is responsible for the financial and programmatic health of the Section. Council holds four official meetings per year (both virtual and in-person), ad hoc virtual meetings and a three day in person meeting in the summer. Members of Council also have position-specific obligations between meetings.
Council votes on matters of importance to the Section and brings forth ideas of how the Section can better serve members and the tax system in general.
While there are no explicit requirements for these roles, nominees must be members of the ABA Tax Section. The committee also looks for an involvement in and commitment to the work of the Section and a demonstration of leadership skills and aptitude to guide future growth. This could be through leadership of one of the Section’s 36 substantive committees, work on a special project or affinity group, or promoting or improving the Tax Section in some other fashion.
The Nominating Committee particularly seeks to advance the Section’s commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion by promoting leadership candidates from diverse backgrounds and/or who have demonstrated a commitment to DEI values.
The Nominating Committee invites any member to submit their own name or names of fellow members for any of the positions below by September 14, 2022 to [email protected]. You can also reach out with questions or to discuss the process or positions to me or to Meg Newman.
We seek nominations for the following positions:
- Chair-Elect
- Secretary
- Vice Chair for Continuing Legal Education (CLE)
