Expatriation

By Robert S. Steinberg, Law Offices of Robert S. Steinberg, Palmetto Bay, FL

(To the tune of 1940 song “Imagination,” by Jimmy Van Heusen and Johnny Burke, as performed by Frank Sinatra and Ella Fitgerald.)

Expatriation is crazy.
That people would does amaze me.
Paying taxes can’t faze me
Love the U.S. of A.

Expatriation seems silly.
Though paying Uncle don’t thrill me.
More or less paid won’t kill me.
Here I’ll stay, come what may.

If the World at War should ever come again.
While you’re abroad.
You’ll be up the creek without a paddle on board.
Oh Lord!

Expatriation feels hasty.
A U.S. Passport means safety.
Life insurance in case the
Russian Bear heads for Rome.
Only two words then you’ll want to hear—
“Welcome Home.”
